Description

Campus and Community Planning has planned significant improvements to the Medical Precinct’s pathways and courtyards as part of the 2009 Public Realm Plan’s mission to create a series of memorable open spaces on campus.  The Medical Precinct is distinct from the Campus Core with an east-west asymmetrical grid, defined by staggered building blocks and with circulation developed around a sequence of open spaces.  Plans for the courtyards include re-establishing the primary courtyard within the three courtyards, improving the overall circulation and access to the spaces, creating a more contemplative campus environment through plantings, site furnishings and programming.

The Health Sciences Courtyard and Pathways project solved long-time drainage problems and improved the usability and aesthetics of this area of campus. Building occupants in the vicinity now enjoy a ‘living room’ carpeted in lawn and surrounded by benches and seating platforms that allow for socializing, reading, studying, relaxing, contemplating or eating.
