Streets and Landscapes Permits

A Streets and Landscape Permit is needed for street, excavation, landscape or infrastructure work within the public realm.

A Streets and Landscape Permit (SLP) is required for any project that involves change, excavation or construction in the public realm. Examples include:  

  • sidewalks
  • landscapes
  • any related construction activity outside a development project boundary as defined by the Development Permit (e.g. excavation for new utilities or repairs, new street furniture or lighting)

Application steps:

  1. Identify the street/location for your proposed project, provide a scope of work, estimated cost of construction, and review the Terms and Conditions in the application form.
  2. Complete the Streets and Landscape Permit Application Form and submit with all required materials to Streets.Landscape@ubc.ca. Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for review of your submission. The application will be circulated to various departmental staff for review or comment.  
  3. The permit is issued by the Director of Planning, Development Services with conditions.
