1k, 5k and 10k run in support of Canadian Diabetes and BC Children's Hospital

Anticipated 750 participants and 100 spectators

9:55am - 10:20am - Wesbrook Mall will be CLOSED from Berton Avenue to Birney Avenue.

9:55am - 10:20am - Gray Avenue will be CLOSED east of Wesbrook Mall to Binning Avenue to the trails.

Location
SW Marine Drive, West 16th, Ross Drive
  • Cyclists will leave the start line in one minute intervals
  • Riders will be on dedicated bike lanes or wide shoulders with no disruption to vehicular traffic
  • Finish line will be located just north of the entrance to the UBC Farm on Ross Drive
  • Access to all areas, including parks and the UBC Farm, will be maintained
  • RCMP will be present at the intersection of Westbrook Mall and SW Marine Drive, and at the circular at West 16th and East Mall/Ross Drive
  • Flag persons will be located at West 16th Avenue on the SW Corner to direct riders eastward up to  West 16th
  • No special event parking is permitted on Ross Drive
  • Volunteers with safety vests will be strategically located every 1 km along SW Marine Drive as observers
  • "Race in Progress" signs will be located along the entire route
  • Advanced paramedic with ambulance will be on site
  • The noise will not be loud and will not impact any University operations
  • No food or alcohol will be served
  • There are no road closures
  • There will be a temporary closure of Bus Stop number 51897 (SW Marine Drive and Camosun) as per City of Vancouver Special Events

Event Details:

  • Tuesdays from May 9th to August 29th, but may not occur on every Tuesday
  • Clockwise from Stadium Road and Main Mall to East Mall, West 16th Avenue, SW Marine Drive and Stadium Road back to Main Mall.
  • Cyclists ride at higher speeds and follow rules of the road, but close a lane for their event because of the high cycling speeds
  • Course marshalls and traffic control personnel (TCP) will be placed along the course to ensure the safety of cyclists and bring awareness to the comunity that the event is in progress
  • Short delays may occur before traffic is permitted to cross the reserved lane behind the cyclists
  • Food and beverage will not be served
  • Sound system will not be used

Event Road Closures:

  • TCP will close one lane westbound on West 16th Avenue at East Mall roundabout, but all traffic movements will be maintained.
  • Course marshalls will be located at St. John Hospice, Botanical Garden and Stadium Road to allow access when it is safe.
  • Access to West Mall driveways from the north either from Agronomy Road off of Marine Drive or from Thunderbird Blvd.off of East Mall.
  • Access to St. John Hospice via West Mall

  • Start/finish on the east alignment of East Mall at University Commons
  • Volunteers will be set up along the route to guide the runners
  • Emergency access on the east alignment of East Mall will be maintained at all times
  • All other emergency access routes will be maintained at all times
  • Access routes into and out of buildings will be accessible through gaps in runners
  • First Aid to be on site
  • The noise will not be loud and will not impact any University operations
  • No food or alcohol will be served

Join us on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 to view and comment on the development proposal for Lot 4 in Wesbrook Place.  Plans will be displayed for 11,332m2 rental residential development with 135 units for faculty and staff.

Representatives from the project team and Campus and Community Planning will be available to provide information and respond to inquiries about this project.
