Under the University Act, the UBC Board of Governors is vested with the power to:
- manage, administer and control the property, revenue, business and affairs of the University,
- make rules respecting the management, government and control of the University’s real property, buildings and structures, and
- generally make rules consistent with the powers conferred on the Board of Governors by the University Act.
UBC’s Vancouver campus lands at Point Grey are located in the unorganized territory of Electoral Area ‘A’ of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (Metro Vancouver), and as such are outside a local government jurisdiction. The University has established a framework of planning policies and development controls fashioned after municipal government best practices and is responsible for issuing Development and Building Permits.
