Road construction on University Boulevard - June 12, 2017
One of UBC’s steepest streets is undergoing a shift to one-way traffic this summer to improve pedestrian and cycling safety. Beginning June 12, University Boulevard will convert to single lane, one-way traffic westbound from West Mall to Lower Mall.
The switch to one-way traffic will reduce congestion at the West Mall intersection and direct vehicles to access the West and Fraser parkades along Lower Mall.
Over the next month, there will be some single lane and sidewalk closures to allow for landscaping and other street improvements in the area.
Road construction on SW Marine Drive May 8 - Sept. 4, 2017
Starting May 8 through September 4, 2017, Southwest Marine Drive will be fully closed from Granville Street to Camosun Street (near West 41st Avenue) for the final phase of roadway improvements by the City of Vancouver.
During the construction period traffic delays are expected and all road users should plan ahead to avoid delays. The road will remain closed day and night during the construction period except to local traffic displaying resident decals on their cars. All truck traffic will be rerouted to 41st Avenue.
The 49 Metrotown Station bus will be rerouted to accommodate the construction work along Southwest Marine Drive between Granville and Camosun streets. Commuters to UBC should take the 41 Joyce Station/Crown/UBC, 43 Joyce Station/UBC or 480 UBC/Bridgeport Station.
Road closure April 11, 2017
On Tuesday, April 11 from 9 am to 3 pm, westbound lanes on 16th Avenue from Blanca Street will be closed to traffic to allow the repaving of potholes from the winter season.
All traffic will be detoured to University Boulevard or Chancellor Boulevard off of Blanca Street. Transit will run as usual but will be detoured.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is overseeing the repaving work.
Road closures April 3 to 5, 2017
There will be road closures on NW Marine Drive and University Boulevard taking place from April 3 to 5, including daytime and evening roadwork. NW Marine Drive along Spanish Banks will be fully closed for repaving on Monday April 3 through Wednesday April 5 during the daytime. Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed onto the multi-use trail that runs along the beach and traffic control will be in place to redirect traffic onto Chancellor Boulevard and 4th Avenue to get around the work area. The repaving work is being done by the City of Vancouver to improve the quality of the roadway. In addition, University Boulevard will be closed westbound from Monday April 3 to Wednesday April 5 from 7pm to 6am to enable the University Endowment Lands to complete sewer work. During the closure transit buses will be rerouted and traffic will be detoured onto Western Parkway to access Wesbrook Mall. Pedestrians and cyclists will be accommodated on the south side of University Boulevard only.
Pedestrian route changes in the U Boulevard area: March 6 - May 2017
Starting Monday, March 6, all bus stops in the UBC (diesel) Bus Loop are moving to Wesbrook Mall. The new UBC Bus Exchange, located off Wesbrook Mall at University Boulevard, will partially open for drop-offs only. This means that all transit riders will board on Wesbrook Mall when leaving campus, and arrive in the new UBC Bus Exchange.
Bus routes affected are the 99 B-Line, 25, 33, 41, 43, 49 and 480. These routes are being relocated until construction of the new UBC Bus Exchange and Gage South Student Residence is completed in Summer 2019.
