Bike to Work (and School) Week

October 24 - 30, 2016

Want to get more out of your commute to UBC? How about enjoying more fresh air, improved health and a lower carbon footprint?

October 24 - 30 is Bike to Work (and School) Week!

There’s no better time to get inspired to get active and energized on your way to UBC, and reduce your carbon footprint. You can also win great prizes! We’ve got lots going on through the week to keep you pumped up and prepared to tackle anything (including the hill).

Register Today

Participating in Bike to Work/School Week is free, quick and easy:

  • Register online with HUB (the sooner, the better)
  • Choose your workplace – “University of British Columbia-UBC” – then join a team or create your own.
  • Map your route to work.
  • Log your route with HUB each day you ride.  This will track your kilometers, GHG emissions and calories.

Nervous about joining? Here’s the top 5 reasons to sign up:

  1. You'll feel great being active!
  2. The prizes  ($20,000 in prizes, including a trip to Amsterdam and new bikes)!
  3. Get places faster
  4. Save cash  -- don't you want extra money to spend on things other than transportation?
  5. It's way more fun than traffic or a crowded bus!

If you already registered in a previous Bike to Work Week, simply login and log a trip to be considered a spring participant. Once you’re done, start thinking about which other UBC team you’re going to try and beat this year.

If you are a seasoned cyclist, perhaps it’s time to think about your bragging rights? We need competitive riders to help UBC defend its place as champion for Best Workplace 1000+ and Best in Higher Education in BC!

Wednesday, October 5: Fall and Winter Riding Lunch Hour Workshop

12:00 – 1:00 pm

Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) Policy Labs, 2260 West Mall [map]

To help you get ready to ride throughout the fall and witner, UBC and HUB are offering a free lunch hour workshop!

This intermediate-level workshop is a great way to encourage those who ride in warmer weather to try biking to work in the Fall. Participants will learn more advanced tips and tricks about biking to work in Metro Vancouver’s winter riding conditions, including dressing for the weather (staying warm and dry), more advanced cycling safety, advanced use of your gears, cold-weather care for your bike, lights and visibility, and more! Bike maps and other resources are provided to all participants.

The workshop will also cover information on how to sign up for Bike to Work Week later this month.

Lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so please register in advance to reserve your space.
