The redeveloped site will include modern, purpose-built facilities for the RCMP and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services to serve a growing campus community. It will also add new neighbourhood housing, both within a new public safety building and in separate buildings across the site, along with space for child care and commercial uses and the infrastructure needed to support the area.

Through an upcoming planning and engagement process, UBC will develop a plan to guide the redevelopment of the site.

A first phase of community engagement will run from October 27 to November 15. Further details will be shared with the campus community and available on this page. Stay tuned. *Note: the engagement dates have been updated due to the provincial election.

The Public Safety Site is located on Wesbrook Mall near Hampton Place Neighbourhood, Acadia Park and the Fraternity Village, and across from the Thunderbird Park sports fields. The site, which is approximately five acres, has accommodated police and fire services since the Public Safety Building opened in 1982. The building itself is aging and its outdated and inefficient layout limits how effectively the available space can be used. For the RCMP, this is a barrier to accommodating additional officers as the campus community grows.

In addition to the Public Safety Building, the site currently includes parking used by police and fire services, and areas of green space.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Fire Hall No. 10

Fire Hall No. 10 serves the UBC Vancouver campus and its neighbourhoods, as well as the University Endowment Lands and Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responds to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle incidents, hazardous-materials incidents and other emergencies.

University RCMP Detachment

The University RCMP Detachment serves the UBC Vancouver campus and its neighbourhoods, as well as the University Endowment Lands and Pacific Spirit Regional Park. The detachment enforces the law, investigates criminal offences and responds to emergencies and other incidents. It works closely with UBC Community Safety.
