Car sharing makes occasional use of a vehicle affordable, even for low-income households, while providing an incentive to minimize driving and rely on alternative travel options as much as possible. Drivers may pay a monthly or annual administration fee plus a usage fee – for example, by the minute or the kilometer.
See below for the different car share service providers on campus.
Roundtrip Car Sharing
Modo is a locally owned member co-op allowing two-way trips. Park the car where you picked it up. Rates include gas, insurance and permitted parking.
Choose from dozens of vehicles at UBC, with 600+ more cars, SUVs, trucks and vans across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan. Students, faculty or staff can join as young as 19 with an “N”, or 16 with an “L” under a Primary Member’s account. For more information visit www.modo.coop.
Zipcar offers pay as you go rates (both hourly and daily rates are available), and the cost includes gas, insurance, some mileage and reserved parking at UBC. Like Modo, members return the car where they picked it up.
Zipcar has vehicles on campus for campus community members to use 24/7. You can reserve one of the cars online or through the iPhone or Android applications.
If you’re 18 or over, all you need to get started is a valid driver’s license. Visit www.zipcar.ca to learn more and sign up.
