Main Mall

The University's most prominent kilometre of landscape, connecting the campus community through a major ceremonial pedestrian promenade fronted by significant buildings, cultural spaces, and public art.

  • Section 1

    Northern-most section of Main Mall, just south of the Rose Garden and Flag Pole Plaza, between the Belkin Art Gallery and Buchanan Block A Building.

  • Section 2

    Section of Main Mall just north of Memorial Rd, between the Frederic Lasserre Building and Buchanan Block B Building. 

  • Section 3

    Section of Main Mall just south of Agricultural Rd, between David Lam Management Research Centre and Chemistry Block D Building. 

  • Section 4

    Section of Main Mall between Chemistry Block D Building and the Henry Angus Building, just south of the Great Trek Memorial Cairn. 

  • Section 5

    Section of Main Mall between Chemistry Block B Building and the Henry Angus Building, immediately north of Martha Piper Plaza. 

    Main Mall Section 5 is also referred to as Martha Piper Plaza North. 

  • Section 6

    Section of Main Mall between Neville Scarfe Building and the Biological Sciences Building, immediately south of Martha Piper Plaza.

Outlets are located on light posts along the Main Mall alignments. A ladder is required to access outlets, as they are elevated.

Bollard Drops

To access Main Mall by vehicle for event setup and take down, a bollard drop may be required, depending on whether Main Mall section is adjacent to a public road with a stopping/parking area. If required, there is a fee for this service. Bollard drops must be arranged prior to event setup with the Film and Events Office.

Please be advised that the bollard must never be left unattended when lowered.

Vehicle Parking and Movement

Parking is not permitted on Main Mall. Vehicles may remain stationary for event set-up and take-down only. 

Main Mall is a high pedestrian traffic area with multiple movement corridors intersecting through the plaza. All moving vehicles within Main Mall must exercise extreme caution, be escorted by an event organizer, give way to all pedestrians/cyclists, and not exceed 10 km/h.

Emergency vehicle access must be maintained at all times. No event infrastructure is permitted on the Main Mall pavers.

Next Steps

If you would like to book one or more sections of Main Mall for your next outdoor event, your first step is to review the Outdoor Event Booking Process. After you're familiar with the booking process, you will be required to submit an Outdoor Event Application.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and must be submitted a minimum of 15 business days in advance of event setup if the event has minimal impact to campus. If alcohol is being served, applications must be submitted a minimum of 45 business days in advance of event setup. High-impact events require a minimum of six (6) months in advance of event setup.
