UBC Project Services has applied for a Development Permit for some targeted seismic upgrades to Douglas T. Kenny Building located at 2136 West Mall. The work includes demolition, excavation, site work, foundations, structure, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire suppression, and landscape work.
The existing four-storey building, originally constructed in 1983, is currently occupied by the Department of Psychology. The project involves a seismic upgrade and swing space refurbishment. A key goal of the project is to be sustainable by increasing the life span of the building and, where possible minimize embodied carbon emissions through the reuse of the existing structural elements and the incorporation of low-carbon concrete in new additions.
The total site area is approximately 2,751 m2
