Campus Road Closures

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit has released a new schedule for the major asphalt repaving project at the 16th Avenue and Wesbrook Mall roundabout. Drivers should plan ahead as the roundabout at W. 16th Avenue and Wesbrook Mall will be fully closed overnight during the following periods for roadwork:

• Thursday, August 27, 8 p.m. to Friday, August 28, 5 a.m.
• Friday, August 28, 8 p.m. to Saturday, August 29, 5 a.m.

Utility work for the Lower Mall Precinct development and Sauder Powerhouse Expansion, as well as expansion to the District Energy System will be done from February to November 2026 and will result in a number of road closures on the west side of campus. This work will be done in phases to minimize impact to the campus community.

• Full closure required to complete renovation work at the Food and Beverage Innovation Precinct. 
• Access to loading area for School of Population and Public Health maintained from East Mall.
• Sidewalk will remain open.

• West Mall is closed for utility work from Memorial Road to University Boulevard until November 2026. 
• Any through traffic must use NW Marine Drive to Agronomy Road. 
• The east sidewalk along West Mall is closed from University Boulevard to the Geography Building. Pedestrians are detoured to Main Mall or the west side of West Mall.
• The work zone will extend further south into the University Boulevard intersection, but the timing is not known yet.  
  
   

• Key impact of this work is the detour for pedestrians moving north south in the area. Use the sidewalk on the east side of Wesbrook Mall or Athlete’s Walk west of War Memorial Gym.

Construction is currently underway for Lot BCR 7 on Wesbrook Mall in the Wesbrook Place neighbourhood. 

Key impacts: 

• The sidewalk along the east side of Wesbrook Mall from Ross Drive to Grey Avenue in front of the site will remain closed until the project is complete. 
• On-street parking along the east side of Wesbrook Mall from Ross Drive in front of the site will remain closed until the project is complete. 
• Intermittent closures of on-street parking on the west side of Wesbrook Mall will be required from time to time to accommodate construction activity. 
• Single lane or full road closures on Wesbrook Mall may be required from time to time to accommodate construction activity.
• All construction activity for the site has been instructed to use Wesbrook Mall south of the site to arrive and depart to reduce impacts on Wesbrook Village area.
