Campus Road Closures

The UBC Apple Festival is a two-day event at the UBC Botanical Garden (6804 South West Marine Drive and Stadium Road) featuring unique apples, apple trees, apple-related products, and a marketplace of local vendors. The 2026 festival will take place on October 17 and 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

Road Impacts – October 17 and 18 from 9:00am until 5:00pm

Full Road Closures

• Stadium Road – West Mall to Southwest Marine Drive

Lane Closures

Southwest Marine Drive northbound:

• Left travel lane closed from 16th Avenue to Stadium Road. Traffic will be shifted into the right travel lane.

Southwest Marine Drive at Stadium Road:

• Northbound left-turn lane to the UBC Botanical Garden closed. Northbound right-turn lane onto Stadium Road closed.

Southwest Marine Drive southbound:

• Right travel lane closed to general traffic approaching Stadium Road. Right lane reserved for shuttle buses with Traffic Control Personnel assistance. Southbound left-turn lane onto Stadium Road closed.

*Closures and traffic restrictions will be in effect on October 17 and 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h, and parking will not be permitted on the designated shoulders of Southwest Marine Drive between 16th Avenue and Stadium Road.

**Bike lanes and one vehicle lane in each direction will remain open. Shuttle buses will operate between the West and Fraser Parkades and the UBC Botanical Garden. Bus 68 to UBC Exchange will be rerouted; please check transit updates before travelling.

Great Trek (formerly known as Fall Classic) is a long-standing running race at UBC. Participants can run 5k, 10k, half marathon or relay. The Great Trek Festival pays tribute to the student pilgrimage (The Great Trek) that came to define UBC.

• East Mall – University Boulevard to Crescent Road (access to Chan loading bay maintained)
• Crescent Road – East Mall to West Mall 
• NW/SW Marine Drive – West Mall to 16th Avenue**
• University Boulevard – East Mall to Main Mall 
• Agricultural Road – West Mall to East Mall 
• Old Marine Drive

Lane Closures

SW Marine Drive:

• All southbound lanes CLOSED from 16th Avenue to Kullahun Drive. Southbound traffic detoured to 16th Avenue eastbound.
• One northbound lane open for northbound traffic. 

Old Marine Drive:

• Southbound lane closed, no traffic can exit Old Marine Drive onto SW Marine. 
• Limited northbound traffic will be accommodated through gaps in runners from SW Marine Drive.

*C68, R4 and 49 bus routes will be affected until approximately 1:30 pm.. Please check bus routes before heading out. 

**Access to UBC Botanical Garden from Stadium Road via gaps in runners.   

***Access to/from Hospice via East Mall and Stadium Road.

 

Utility work for the Lower Mall Precinct development and Sauder Powerhouse Expansion, as well as expansion to the District Energy System will be done from February to November 2026 and will result in a number of road closures on the west side of campus. This work will be done in phases to minimize impact to the campus community.

• Full closure required to complete renovation work at the Food and Beverage Innovation Precinct. 
• Access to loading area for School of Population and Public Health maintained from East Mall.
• Sidewalk will remain open.

• West Mall is closed for utility work from Memorial Road to University Boulevard until November 2026. 
• Any through traffic must use NW Marine Drive to Agronomy Road. 
• The east sidewalk along West Mall is closed from University Boulevard to the Geography Building. Pedestrians are detoured to Main Mall or the west side of West Mall.
• No public traffic is permitted north of Biosciences Road on West Mall due to the work at West Mall and University Boulevard. The only exceptions are:
  • UBC fleet vehicles
  • People with mobility challenges requiring closer access. This is best communicated with SPARC passes in rearview mirrors for the flagger to easily identify.
  • Construction traffic and deliveries.
     

• Key impact of this work is the detour for pedestrians moving north south in the area. Use the sidewalk on the east side of Wesbrook Mall or Athlete’s Walk west of War Memorial Gym.

Construction is currently underway for Lot BCR 7 on Wesbrook Mall in the Wesbrook Place neighbourhood. 

Key impacts: 

• The sidewalk along the east side of Wesbrook Mall from Ross Drive to Grey Avenue in front of the site will remain closed until the project is complete. 
• On-street parking along the east side of Wesbrook Mall from Ross Drive in front of the site will remain closed until the project is complete. 
• Intermittent closures of on-street parking on the west side of Wesbrook Mall will be required from time to time to accommodate construction activity. 
• Single lane or full road closures on Wesbrook Mall may be required from time to time to accommodate construction activity.
• All construction activity for the site has been instructed to use Wesbrook Mall south of the site to arrive and depart to reduce impacts on Wesbrook Village area.
