Wesbrook Place Basketball Court - Withdrawn

In November 2021 a development permit application was submitted to UBC Campus and Community Planning by UBC Properties Trust on behalf of the University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) for a temporary basketball court to be located on the future elementary school site at Birney Avenue and Ross Drive.

In response to concerns from the community regarding potential noise impacts on adjacent residential buildings, the application was withdrawn.

A revised application has been received that locates the court next to the existing volleyball courts, increasing the distance from the nearest residential buildings by an additional 30 m from the original application. The proposal includes planted berms along the east and south sides of the court.

At its meeting on May 17, 2022, the UNA Board voted to cancel the proposed temporary Wesbrook Basketball Court project and directed UBC Properties Trust to withdraw the development permit application for the temporary Wesbrook Basketball Court.
