Questions/Comments Response
When is the building going to be finished? Can some classes still remain operational in the building as renovations are being done or the whole building will be shut down until the end of the construction? The building is currently targeted to commence construction in summer 2020 and targeted completion by summer 2022. There will be no classes or access to the building during this time.
Given the gender imbalance in ECE and goals for changing it, why not have washrooms with fully-enclosed toilets and shared sinks, rather than discriminatory single-gender washrooms?  UBC is currently undertaking a campus-wide consultation to determine standards for inclusive/gender neutral washrooms on campus. In response to the study's early findings, washrooms in this Renewal Project have been designed to offer a variety of washroom experiences to cater to UBC's diverse population of users. Typologies include gendered spaces, a gender neutral washroom and individual (accessible) toilet rooms that offer increased privacy.
I worry that the makerspace will not be easily accessible or will be impossibly-oversubscribed. The department of ECE is responsible for determining the size of the makerspace relative to their program requirements. Comment has been forwarded to them for review & consideration.
Please please please please use option 2 - concrete precast panels instead of the aluminum composite panels for the facade. Thank you The project is exploring options for the replacement of the exterior envelope of the building and is currently assessing pros and cons of each and will make a determination balancing multiple competing project drivers.
