Bike bio 1

Featuring Lily, student, 1st year Faculty of Arts

Lily’s advice to others on campus is “definitely buy a lock – or two if you can afford it. A u-lock though the wheel and another through the frame”.

Bike bio 2

Featuring Cougar, student, 2nd year Biology & Oceanography

Cougar bikes to UBC because it takes almost half the time as the bus, saying that “Vancouver’s such a bike-friendly city so it’s a great way to get around”. Cougar’s piece of advice to other bikers is “waterproof shoes! And fenders are key”.

Bike bio 3 - intext

Featuring Kai, student, 3rd year Economics

Working away at the UBC Bike Kitchen, Kai says "volunteers are really helpful and friendly. It’s a great place to learn more about your bike”. Kai’s advice to others biking on campus is to “give way to pedestrians at crossings – you’re not exempt from the law!”

Bike bio 4

Featuring Maryam, student, 4th year Kinesiology

Having had a bike stolen her first week at UBC four years ago having used a u-lock recommended at a local bike shop, Maryam says “don’t leave it in a very secluded area. Trust your instincts when you know you’ve left it in a sketchy place”.

Bike bio 5

Featuring Alison, graduate student, Physics

Alison’s piece of advice is “being familiar with where bike lanes are” to not end up on the sidewalk.

Bike bio 6

Featuring Carole, staff, Campus + Community Planning

Carole says "it's dark and wet out there, but don't let that stop you". Her piece of advice to other bikers on campus is that "good rain gear and bright lights go a long way in keeping you safe and dry. Ride on winter warriors".
