Bike lockers offer additional security by providing a personal, covered and secure enclosure for bicycles. Key details of the Bike Locker Rental program are as follows:
- Registration for bike locker rentals is managed through UBC Parking’s online parking portal accessed from the UBC Parking website.
- Bike locker permits are currently $240/year + GST ($20/month + GST).
- Bike locker permits are sold by the year but are refundable and pro-rated as long as there is at least 30 days left on the permit.
- Bike Locker permits are renewable before the end of each year and rental fees can be paid online through each permit holders parking account from the UBC Parking website.
Anyone new interested in renting a bike locker can follow the steps:
- If you don’t already have one, create a parking account with UBC Parking and log-in. For everyone else, log-in to your parking account.
- Once on the parking portal, click on Add/Edit Waitlists then click through the next few pages ensuring your e-mail address is up to date.
- On the Update Account Vehicles page, click on Add Vehicle and add your bicycle details. Just type Bicycle for the Plate Number and leave Make, Colour, and Style categories blank, then click Next.

Bike Cages
UBC offers a number of secure bike cages across campus. These facilities offer additional security by providing covered bike racks within a secure enclosure that is shared with others. Some of these cages are within parking structures while others are provided as standalone structures.
UBC staff, students and faculty can register to get access to bike cages by purchasing a complimentary bicycle parking permit from the UBC Parking website, instructions are provided below.
You must have a UBCcard to get access to the secure bike cages. Members affiliated with the university that do not have a UBCcard must go to the Access Desk in the UBC Bookstore to confirm eligibility to access bike cages. If eligible, a $10 deposit is required to obtain a UBCcard. Once you have your UBCcard, please follow the instructions below to register.
How to Register for Access to Bike Cages
Follow the step by step instructions below. Note, you will need the Serial Number of your bicycle, which is commonly located under the bottom bracket where the two pedal cranks meet. It is also good for you to know your bike’s Serial Number in the event your bike is stolen so you can report it to police. Registering your bike with Project 529 will help with the return of stolen bikes that are recovered by police as well.
UBC staff, students and faculty can go to the UBC Parking website and Log-In to their UBC Parking-Account by clicking on UBC CWL Login. For affiliated members who do not have a UBCcard, go to the Access Desk in the UBC Bookstore to confirm your eligibility to access bike cages and get a visitor UBCcard upon providing a $10 credit card deposit and presenting a valid government issued ID, then follow the steps below, with the exception that you must select Guest Login.
- Go to PERMITS and click on Get Permits. Then click on Next to Purchase a UBC Vancouver Parking Permit.
- Verify your e-mail and click Next then you will be taken to the permits page.
- At the top of the list of permits is Bicycle Permits. Select Bicycle Cage Permit then scroll to the bottom of the page to click on the box to accept the terms and conditions then click Next.
- Click on Add Bicycle then enter in your Serial Number of your bike and click on Submit.
- On the Select/Add Vehicle page select your bicycle and click Next then you will be taken to View Cart. At the bottom of the page click on Continue. This will take you to Payment Information where it will show a $0.00 charge. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Continue again.
- You are done! You will get a confirmation e-mail sent to you and you will have access to bike cages on campus using your UBCcard in 24hours.

Showers & Changerooms
Showers are essential to support people commuting by bike to the UBC campus. UBC requires that all new buildings on campus provide end of trip facilities (showers, changerooms, and secure bike parking inside the building) for the people who work in the building. However, many older buildings do not have these facilities. If you aren’t sure if your building has end of trip facilities, ask your colleagues or building administrator or facility manager. Access to building end of trip facilities are managed by the building, not C+CP.
For students that do not have access to showers, you can use the showers in the recreation facilities on campus (War Gym, Student Recreation Centre, and Osborne etc.). In addition, there are showers available for staff, faculty and students outside of the bike cage located in the lower level of the UBC Life Building by the UBC Bike Kitchen.
Bike Removal
While UBC aims to provide a wide variety of options for bicycle parking, some areas are not appropriate for locking your bike. Bicycles that are parked in places that restrict pedestrian movement, access to buildings, or critical infrastructure such as fire hydrants will be removed. Abandoned bikes are frequent at UBC as a result of the turnover of students. C+CP regularly removes abandoned bicycles to free up bike rack space for the campus community.
