Climate Action Plan 2020 Update.

When it comes to climate action, UBC has history. The first climate action target was set in 2010, when UBC committed to bold GHG emission reduction targets that are among the most aggressive of the world’s top 40 universities.

We have momentum. Building on the success of UBC’s 2010 Climate Action Plan, we are now developing the Climate Action Plan 2020, which will define actions UBC could take over the next 5 years and beyond to achieve a 67 per cent GHG emissions reduction (below 2007 levels).

And we have ambitions to accomplish much more.  The Summary Report of the first part of the Climate Action Plan 2020 consultation process is now available online.  The report presents a summary of the ideas received during Phase 1 public consultation, which took place from September 14 - 27 online. This phase of consultation also included a call out to climate change researchers and engaged a broad range of campus stakeholders through four Ideas Workshops.

What's next?

The planning team is evaluating all ideas received through the public call for ideas, the call for ideas from climate change researchers and through the four Ideas Workshops. Potential options emerging from the analysis will be presented to the UBC community for feedback in March 2016. Feedback received in March 2016 will inform the development of a draft CAP 2020 plan to be presented to the UBC Board of Governors in June 2016. The public consultation opportunities will be broadly advertised.
