Phase 2 of the U Boulevard Area 2018 Updates focused on refining the design vision for revitalizing the Bosque and providing updates on specific U Boulevard Area projects, including additional Walter Gage housing (now called Pacific Residence) and Brock Commons Phase 2. It offered the opportunity for the UBC community to submit input on to the design vision for revitalizing the Bosque and on plans for the U Boulevard Area broadly.

A total of 229 community members participated in the consultation online through a survey and in person at two public open houses, as well at two pop-up information booths held in advance of the open houses. Overall, the comments received suggested there was strong support for re-envisioning the Bosque to be a more useable and functional space for social and recreational activities, including improving pedestrian access and connections. We also heard some concern about increased development on campus and the removal of trees in the Bosque.

Public Consultation Phase 1: March 14 - April 8, 2018

Phase 1 of public consultation offered the opportunity for the UBC community to find out more about and provide input on a number of planning concepts, including:

  • New student housing in the Brock Commons and Walter Gage areas
  • New student housing and ground floor academic uses on the D.H. Copp site
  • New Arts Student Centre siting
  • Improvements to outdoor spaces

A total of 264 members of the community submitted feedback through an online survey and in person at two public open houses. Comments largely supported increasing student housing opportunities and supportive amenities, while some concern was voiced about increased development, especially the possibility of losing open green spaces.

A summary of U Boulevard Area 2018 Update public consultation was presented to the UBC Board of Governors in June 2018 as part of the presentations surrounding future student housing and academic facilities in the area.
