Love Your Leftovers

Canadians waste over $15 billion worth of food at home each year.  In Metro Vancouver alone, households generate about 190,000 tonnes of food waste annually. We can do better!

The Love Your Leftovers festival is taking place on March 16 from 11:30am to 2:00pm at the UBC Bookstore Plaza and Lee Square. The festival is part of the Ripple Effect, UBC’s annual sustainability campaign.

What is blooming on UBC’s Vancouver campus?

There are many advantages to studying, working, and living at UBC’s Vancouver campus.  World-class academics, a sustainable community design, the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, and a fresh ocean breeze are a just a few.

But at this time of year, one in particular always stands out: spring starts early here.

It’s not just the flowers and trees that are blooming on our campus this season.

Staff, students and residents are full of great ideas to build community on campus and many of those great projects have come to life this spring.

What do they do back there?

Behind the scenes of the Permits and Inspections office.

When you walk in the front door of 2210 West Mall, pass through the lobby and take your first left, you’ll find a grey glass door with a sign that reads: “Permits & Inspections Welcome!”

Inside that door are the five Campus and Community Planning staff whose roles are to ensure that the buildings at UBC are built to be safe.
