Let's choose to reuse

News-Web-Choose-reuse.jpg

The UBC Vancouver community is working to reduce the use of disposable coffee cups and plastic food ware. We’re encouraging students, faculty and staff to choose reusable mugs, water bottles and cutlery instead. As of January 27, single-use hot beverage cups at UBC cost at least 25¢.

The move is part of UBC’s Zero Waste Food Ware Strategy, aimed at keeping as many single-use coffee cups, plastic straws, bags and cutlery out of landfills and the environment as possible.

UBC staff help save energy during Seasonal Shutdown

STORY-Shutdown-Jan2020.jpg

This past December, departments, building operators and energy managers across UBC joined together to reduce the university’s environmental footprint over the winter holiday by participating in the Seasonal Shutdown.

This annual campus-wide campaign incorporates energy-saving operations with a staff and faculty challenge to complete energy and heat-saving tasks before the holiday annual shutdown.

More Light on the Subject

Buchanan Exterior 4.jpg

If you’ve been on a night-time walk around Buchanan Courtyards or Agricultural Road recently, you might have noticed a change in the lighting. These recently finished projects are the first ones on campus to follow the new outdoor lighting guidelines established in last year’s Public Realm Plan. And when the sun goes down, they have a different feel to them.
